Enchanted Safari

Location: Aalsmeer, The Netherlands
Residents: Parents + 2 kids

I love giraffes, and elephants, and zebras, too. Did you notice the giraffe in my room? Every night when I go to bed, I say to him, good night, giraffe! I love my room because of this special bed which can be flipped over from a floor bed to a bunk bed, where I can make a tent underneath.

I love giraffes, and elephants, and zebras, too. Did you notice the giraffe in my room? Every night when I go to bed, I say to him, good night, giraffe! I love my room because of this special bed which can be flipped over from a floor bed to a bunk bed, where I can make a tent underneath.

I love playing with my construction crane toy and swinging on the rope in our playroom. When I do this, mom says that I am a little monkey. Our new playroom is so much fun! We climb there all the time. I can play there all day long. I like it especially now when everything is closed, and we stay home most of the day. My sister is six, but I climb much higher and faster than her. I like to climb on the cabinets and from there to the climbing wall and from there to the climbing ladder. Fun, fun, fun. my mom is scared that I will fall and hit myself, so she likes to sit on the sofa and drink her coffee while my sister and I play. If you ask me, hot chocolate is so much better!

I am very good at making different animals sounds like a lion or a monkey but that really disturbs my dad, who has a recording room in the garage. There is cork covering the wall there, as well as acoustic sponge on the doors so that when he records, my lion roars will not be heard. When he is not in there, I love to sneak in and stick thumbtacks into the cork wall.

I want to tell you a secret: we have an enchanted room in our home. It is the scariest place in our entire house: my parents’ bedroom. The bedroom was once white, but my parents wanted it dark, so they painted everything grey and black, it has also black chandeliers, these long lamps hanging from the ceiling. I realy like the black fireplace. You can't actually light a fire there, but it looks real. Sometimes I sit there and imagine that I’m in a castle and I need to protect it from the dragon!
Another magical thing in this room is the secret TV. When you first enter the room, you think there is no TV because you can't see it anywhere. But superpower! You push the button, and the TV slowly goes up from that black square next to their bed. It's so cool. And when you want it to go back, you push the button again, and it disappears. I love it!

I have so much energy inside of me that I sometimes run around the house a little bit too fast that I break the plant pots. This is when my mom tells me to go be a monkey in our playroom. To climb the wall, swing on the rings, and go up and down on the slide. I’m so happy I have this room! My sister loves to draw and hang her art on the wooden drawing rack while my mom drinks her coffee and smiles.

I love our new house and I’m so happy with everything I can do there, it’s truly like a real safari!
